about Yaerin Kweon (they/them)

That self-connection shared is a measure of the joy which I know myself to be capable of feeling, a reminder of my capacity for feeling.

And that deep and irreplaceable knowledge of my capacity for joy comes to demand from all of my life that it be lived within the knowledge that such satisfaction is possible…

— Audre Lorde, Uses of the Erotic

Hello there!

I am a biologically-inspired, creative human from the liminal space between South Korea and the US in the continuous process of better knowing myself.

Currently, I am based in Seongnam, South Korea.

Having been blessed with a sensitive spirit and a tumultuously challenging conscious experience, I have found great meaning in transforming the pain of the human experience into creative expression.

I am the creator of SNAKESKIN, my brand that houses my various offerings, and is inspired by the cyclical process of shedding skin I have come to find empowerment in.

I work in mediums encompassing painting, drawing, design, animation, digital illustration, video, language, and more.

My practice explores themes such as
queer femininity,
Asian cultural identity,
addressing institutional systems,
and the nondual spiritual tradition.

I carry a scientific background
and have previously worked in the Cullen Lab
in the departments of neurosurgery
and bioengineering
at the University of Pennsylvania,
as well as in the Lee Lab
at the University of Pennsylvania,
which investigates the molecular mechanisms
of the corneal epithelial wound healing process.

I graduated summa cum laude
from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022
double majoring in Biology with honors and Fine Arts.
